Horizontal Drilling

We use the latest in positional survey control tools and directional drilling technologies for horizontal drilling operations.

We provide horizontal/directional drilling services consisting of pre-excavation exploration, and deviation controlled core drilling for engineering tunnel design projects. Crux has become an expert in providing guided, continuous HQ3 wireline core samples, while maintaining tight deviation control.

Horizontal drilling services include:

  • Geotechnical data acquisition along a proposed tunnel alignment, working from a portal or shaft.
  • Tunnel alignment investigation from the surface by providing a horizontal, steered corehole along the tunnel alignment.
  • Providing confirmation of rock cover along tunnel alignments that cross bodies of water.
  • Using horizontal geotechnical boreholes as “mini” pilot tunnels to aid in the development of GBR’s.
  • Deviation controlled core drilling and steering.
  • Ground improvement through grouting procedures, and confirmation of grout coverage through core sampling.
  • Hydraulic conductivity testing ahead of underground excavations.
