Crux Subsurface, Inc. (Crux) will team with sister company Road Bore Corp. to provide EPC foundation services for the replacement of nine structures on Hawaiian Electric Company’s Koolau-Wailupe #1 and #2 46 kV Circuits. Located on the island of Oahu, the project features rugged and steep terrain, and requires most operations to be completed while existing overhead lines are in-service.
Crux will design and install micropile foundations for each of the nine self-supporting steel poles, which are situated in three different locations and support two separate circuits. Due to the remote access, all equipment and personnel will be transported to foundation sites by helicopter. Outages will be permitted during helicopter operations, but drilling activities will be completed in close proximity to in-service lines. Crux’s customized Berretta Spin Drills are designed specifically for these applications and are capable of completing foundation installation with low overhead clearance.
Crews expect to be onsite early October.
