Optical/Acoustical Downhole Imaging

Our Crux Oriented Borehole Logging (COBL) system has the ability to provide a continuous, detailed, and oriented color image of the borehole wall. Subsequent interpretation and analysis of this image provides information on dip azimuth and dip magnitude for all identified planar features. COBL is applicable to vertical, horizontal, and inclined boreholes.

COBL surveys provide the following benefits:

  • Oriented 3 dimensional view of the borehole. This can be especially important in zones of significant core loss or complex fracture sets.
  • Continuous survey of the borehole. The COBL system records the azimuth and dip every 0.01 feet along the course of the log.
  • Orientation of planar features intersecting the borehole. This includes fractures, bedding, joints, and faults, as well as the ability to calculate the frequency and the apertures of these features.
  • Detailed visual representation of the core. This reduces the need to re-open core boxes.

Five primary components of COBL:

  1. Optical Televiewer Sonde
  2. Acoustic Televiewer Sonde
  3. Winch System
  4. MATRIX Data Collector
  5. Laptop Computer with Data Acquisition Software

Crux Oriented Borehole Logging (COBL) provides a continuous, detailed oriented color image of the borehole wall.

The COBL System can accommodate additional downhole surveys including caliper, natural gamma, temperature, and resistivity. To request additional information, please use our Contact Page or call 866-CRUXSUB (866-278-9782).
