
Transmission Line Replacement
This project was commissioned by Avista and the Crux crew experienced extremely hard rock drilling.

Crux’s Role
Crux was contracted to Henkels and McCoy to replace a stretch of transmission line that was outdated and needed work.
Foundation variety consisted of one hundred forty-eight 3’ diameter direct embeds which ranged in depths from 8’-12.5’. Additional work included installing 19 cross plate anchors.
Because of the rugged landscape forty-two of those holes experienced hard rock drilling due to the Four Mound Prairie landscape which encompassed glacial deposits but mostly basalt where Crux was drilling.
Additional challenges included mechanical breakdowns, extremely hard rock and excessive overage on rock drilling productions.
Overall, the project finished with the crew utilizing all three drills and with no safety incidents.
