Micropile Foundations Supporting Critical Tech Infrastructure
Crux Subsurface provided foundation installation services for the Gorge to Perun 2 Transmission Line in The Dalles, Oregon—a key infrastructure project supporting the development of a new technology facility. Working on behalf of Power Constructors Inc. and owner NWCPUD, the project involved the installation of deep foundations to support new tubular steel poles (TSPs) along the transmission corridor.

Crux’s Role
Crux installed one verification pile and four micropile foundations, including two 12-pile 118-inch arrays and two 6-pile 82-inch arrays. Each foundation was designed to support high-capacity TSPs, with piles averaging 40 feet in depth and socketed into competent bedrock.
The team worked closely with project stakeholders to establish clear expectations early in the process, ensuring smooth execution from mobilization through final installation. Crux’s scope included verification testing, drilling, micropile installation, and quality control documentation.
Execution by the Numbers
- 1 verification pile
- 4 micropile foundations
- 2 × 12-pile 118″ arrays
- 2 × 6-pile 82″ arrays
- Average pile depth: 40 feet
Challenges & Solutions
Although the site presented logistical and geotechnical complexities, Crux’s proactive planning and experienced field crew ensured the project remained on schedule and within budget. The team maintained a strong safety record throughout, completing the work without incident.
Outcome
Crux successfully delivered deep foundation solutions that met the structural demands of the transmission line and supported the broader development of a major data infrastructure hub. The project was completed on time, on budget, and with zero safety incidents—a testament to Crux’s commitment to quality and execution.
