Crux’s Role

Crux was selected to install 96 drilled piers, ranging in diameter from 3.5 to 6 feet and from 7 to 16 feet in depth. Primary project challenges included drilling through graded fill, consisting of loose river rock, cobbles and boulders. This created sloughing conditions and larger than desired holes, mitigated by either CMP or added concrete. Due to the nature of substation construction, crews also had to work in congested areas, featuring minimal horizontal and vertical tolerances during drilling and forming operations. The project was successfully completed under budget, ahead of schedule, and with zero safety incidents.
